Such a beautiful region is waiting for you…
We are located in the heart of a marvelous region, filled with a deep history, with many craftsmen and artists, between Dieulefit and the forest of Saoù, plains, mountains, offering various activities: visit of old and picturesque villages, sport activities (hiking, bike, climbing, kayak, horses…), you can also meet craftsmen (ceramics, fabrics, ironwork), or even visit local producers (wine, lavenders, olives, honey…). At last, embrace the freshy artistic environment by attending some jazz concerts.
Here’s a few examples of great villages you could discover :
Pont de Barret : 11,5km away from La Laupie, it is located on the Roubion. Very picturesque on each side of the river, a nice roman bridge is crossing it. Please, climb the little streets to the very top of the village to find there the Roman church Notre-Dame la Brune (12th century). Among the small shops and cafés, there is La Cantine, very Provençal one, and three nice restaurants.
Le Poët-Laval : high village from the 13th century, ranked among the most beautiful French villages, there is a castle, former head of the Saint-Jean of Jerusalem’s order of Hospitaliers, and where we can visit the museum of Protestantism, in the former temple.
Dieulefit : touristic town, well known for its old city and its tradition of pottery.
Saoù : charming village, nestled in mountains from which you could go for a walk, to discover the Forest of Saou, and geologic curiosity and a preserved natural place, a real paradise for hikers, climbers, and all nature lovers!
And many other close villages: Soyans, Chateauneuf de Mazenc, Grignan and its Castle, Marsanne, Mirmande, Crest, Die…
The village of La Laupie is surrounded by many winegrowers, making excellent hill-wines from the Grignan-les-Adhemar appellation, in small familial domains, eager to take you to their caves and make you taste their wine (like the Domaine du Serre des Vignes or Domaine des Caminottes).
The region is also known for its cheese (particularly the Picodon) and all its dairy products, from goat milk. You could meet some producers and buy your cheeses at the Feie or at the Chèvre qui Saoûrit, in Saou, next to La Laupie. You may also want to unearth some excellent Provençal products from lavenders distilleries or from honey producers.
At last, you may enjoy numerous festivals and music shows, or even theatre performance. In particular, we recommend you:
– The Festival de Saoù chante Mozart, a Mozart concert organized in the Forest of Saoù, or in other places of the Drome, from the 2nd to the 24th of July.
– The nocturnal celebration, theatre celebrations organized in the magnificent courtyard of Grignan’s castle, from the 27th of June to the 25th of august.
– The jazz festival in the Poët-Laval, from the 20th to the 22th of July.
